Villea Village is a unique resort situated on the edge of a major agricultural area so it has the best of both worlds - retaining a village atmosphere whilst providing the necessary infrastructure that makes a perfect holiday experience.
Villea has a choice of one bedroom and studio apartments all with either a balcony or terrace that mainly overlook the central garden. Villea is built in an olive grove and these trees provide shade in the gardens and pool area and also the means to hang the hammocks - a great way to chill out on a hot day. The abundance of vegetation makes Villea feel quiet and peaceful even when we are full. All apartments have terrestrial television and direct dial telephone. An Internet cafe and satellite television is available in the lobby.
Villea Village has a 25m pool, Fisherman Jack's pool bar, barbeque area, patio area for breakfasts, drinks, play area for children, table tennis and the occasional Greek dancing lesson
Check in time is 4pm and checkout is 12 noon. Reception is closed from 10pm/11pm and re-opens at 7am/8am - depending on the time of year. Arrivals outside these times will find their apartments clearly indicated and open for them. Most of our apartments have two single beds - if you require a double bed or extra bed please let us know.
An excellent reasonably priced buffet breakfast is served in the lobby building during the morning and from lunchtime onwards light meals, various teas, coffees, cocktails and a selection of beers and local wines are served at Fisherman Jack's pool bar.
Villea is owner managed and we specialize in making sure everyone has a good time. You can participate in activities as diverse as a leisurely sunbathe by the pool, hikes through mountain villages, and outings for Cretan dinners. Whatever you wish, we will fix it for you. To date the most bizarre request was the lady who wanted to milk sheep. We fixed it but to this day we still get strange looks from the shepherds involved.
We have a high proportion of regular visitors from a variety of countries and backgrounds, all of whom share the enjoyment of our village within a village - fortunately this means there is always good, like minded company around should you want it.
The location is one and a half hours away from Heraklion airport and the major cities. The distance from major centres of tourism is viewed by our regular visitors as an advantage and this also means there is very little crime. If you like lots of nightclubs, hundreds of bars and huge hotels, Makrigialos is not for you. If you are looking for a village atmosphere and a safe environment then this is the place. You can safely walk down the beach at night and relax in a friendly atmosphere everywhere you go. For example, Sue, one of the owner/managers has a car outside that has had a flat battery for 6 months (you rarely need to drive very far in this village) and she has no qualms or concerns about it.
The Makrigialos main beach is a gently shelving sandy beach. The next beach Kalamokania Beach (literally translated as Bamboo Legs), apart from being difficult for most non-Greeks to pronounce is a shingle beach that shelves deeply and is great for snorkelling. Within a 10 minute drive you can find many deserted beaches, some of which may require a scramble to get to, but thoroughly rewarding for the effort. There are beaches to suit all tastes right on your doorstep.
The prices in the village are reasonable and you are not going to be pestered by taverna and bar touts.
In short we offer a perfect holiday destination for a relaxing, convivial and pleasant experience.
