The E MESS – "Your Makrigialos
Fix"
ISSUE NUMBER SIX – WEEK COMMENCING
|
Last
week was, as usual interesting - we had several arrivals & departures
notably Tony & Julie arrived [Tony is very quiet this week - very strange
that] Worritt departed & so to did Len. Karen
also left and gets a quote of the week "I don’t mind going but am
looking forward to coming back" The
weather is now hot summer - in fact there is a distinct possibility I can
turn my room into a bedroom as opposed to a walk in wardrobe. During
Lens absence two extremely elegant table clearers took up post on table 11,
down a certain caf. Gary,Sara & Maria did a sterling job & should
be congratulated - there are over twenty entries in the visitors book for the
21st May thank goodness none says "I am writing this because
the bossy woman in the green dress made me". The temptation to change
the menu to include local traditional goatburgers
with feta & Len McNuggets with chips, to
include special offers such as buy two chicken pies & get a free bottle
of Moscafiliro, were sadly not implemented. WOBBLERS During
the course of Sue & Ann giving executive assistance at Porfira [pls remember that Len
has not thrown a wobbler for weeks hence this
section of your paper has been missing]. Sue threw a classic wobbler on the phone in a, thankfully, empty caf - however it did entertain those present - except
perhaps A p o s t o l i s. Saturday
26th is Ron from Villeas birthday there
will be a party at 8-30 on Saturday night in Apotheke
- those of you who know Ron if you want to send e greeting I will print them
off & give them to him. This weeks openings include the Irish
Bar - Michael & Elaine did hope to open last night but this being Mak have postponed it until Monday - I think they are enjoying
their holiday visiting all the bars & restaurants that they usually miss
out on. The only other outstanding opening is Anesis
where building work continues apace. |
HOUSEKEEPING
HINTS Daniela to Sue upon seeing the state of Sues room -
"get Margaret more often" QUOTES
OF THE WEEK THE
BIG MAC INDEX One of the major challenges facing Sue & Daniela is
the lack of a MacDonalds in Mak
- thanks for Breakfast on Tuesday go to Mary & Vassilis
who went to Heraklion on Monday. Not many people
appreciate the delight in a warmed up yesterdays Big Mac. Wednesday Andonis went to Heraklion &
so it was same day Big Macs. Another
gourmet delight ordered this week was Tony in Apotheke have Battle of Crete
commemorative newspapers on the wall - very effective they look too - thanks
to Dorian [ husband of Worritt]. Apotheke have also erected head high
fences on either side of the caf Tony wanted to
start painting them on Monday but was not allowed. He swept up instead
however this created more dust than was removed therefore Tony needs to see
Len for a mopping lesson. CRETA
WAGGED HER TAIL Last Friday was girls night out Sue, Daniela, Ann &
Karen off to Zorbas for dinner - excellent evening had by all including
Spinach who now works upstairs at Zorbas - Sue had a quick Greek dance with
Spinach round Zorbas. What has this got to do with Creta?
We forgot her doggy bag - Rock to the rescue - phoned up Zorbas - Zorbas then
provided a "doggy bag delivery service". This
was handy really as at Fine
Wine & good company in Porfira last night -
romantic atmosphere despite all attempts to fix the electricity!!!! Written

Daniel's
mum made the best lemon cheesecake, Ann bought fireworks - the lighting of
which was delegated to Vassilis as it was
considered mans work. Andonis got lots of pressies & we were all sorry that the emess subscribers could not be there - however it was
great that some of you phoned. Water
George has still not showed up - rumour had it he was on his way last week -
but no show. THE
CULTURE SECTION Villea
is technically in Analipsis - which means
ascension, the little church by the fruit shop is decked with flags &
stuff & is the Church of the Ascension. Today is the feast of the
Ascension & thus church bells have been ringing since the wee small
hours. Today
being Thursday its Raki night and Porfira shut day
- the questions to be asked are who will do the poolside strip this week ! FISH Wanda
& her family are well - so far Sue has managed to remember to feed them
every day but is pretty certain that at some point they will starve to death. GREEK
IN 35 YEARS lesson 4 year one - this week you get more words to make
up for last week. Moura this is a white raspberry
that silk worms eat the leaves of, it must not be confused with Mouni[as
Ann did] which means vagina. Other words you have to be careful of are papara which means the bread dipped in the olive oil of
your salad and Paparia [as Sue did] which means willie and balls. Another usual word if you are a holiday
rep is Xalasmenos - this means broken - also useful
is piscina which means swimming pool, it’s the same
word in Spanish as well. Now I hope you lot have learned all these words that
have been selected with love & devotion. There
is also a With
thanks to those who inspire this missive, on either a voluntary,
or involuntary basis. Please
