I shall start this weeks issue with the Wobbler Section - Yes after weeks of abstinence Len finally threw a classic down his caf on Monday night and this was after sharing a wonderful chicken pie at the bar with Sue - his comment the following day re the Wobbler was "I have to thank Sue Quinn for shutting me up, It was about time I did" Momentous happenings include Ann returning from the airport and ordering an Amstel not a Mickey Mouse sized Bacardi & Coke. While on the subject of cartoons could someone please send a small plastic Popeye as the sign in Lens caf for Olive Oil is crying out for one! This weeks misprint is on the Porfira wine list under Naousa Grand Reserve "at its best, full of manure fruit, after four years in a cask" Arrivals and departures Tony and Julie left on Friday night with Tony making comments like "Raki Night at Villea should carry a Government Health warning" Arrivals this week include Fred early hours Friday and Mark & his mum and dad at a civilised hour on Monday. Water George has still not shown up we have not even heard any rumours about him this week. The ice machine in Apotheke is broken - the part is being couriered from Athens to Ierepetra and then on the bus to Mak - it is a small part and Daniela does not hold out much hope for its safe arrival! Robin, Sues bicycle broke down AGAIN - he was propped up against the wall of Apotheke and some kids knocked him over and jammed his brakes so Andonis had a look and said he needed the repairman. Next day I looked outside Villea and there was Robin - phoned Daniela, how did Robin get home - Gary bless his cottons went to Apotheke on his way home fixed it rode it to his house and then back to Villea. This being a small Village who should be driving along and see Robin - it was Ann - Oh my God someone's stolen Sues bicycle - till she saw it was Gary.

HOUSEKEEPING HINTS This weeks really useful hint comes from Mary - always sniff the water bottle before you tip the contents into the curry prior to re heating in the microwave -the raki gave the rice and the curry quite an interesting flavour QUOTES OF THE WEEK Sarah with an H is the happiest clown at the circus as in I'm an international girl now - bless she's got a Greek Bank account!! THE BIG MAC INDEX - not even a sniff of one this week. CRETA WAGGED HER TAIL Creta has a toy boy!! He is called Loisel & speaks German & Greek. Both play happily together. Creta also has a pet frog that squeaks and lives in Apotheke. Daniela has not been a well girl this week I think her immune system has been weakened by lack of alcohol!! Danielas quote is "that woman hasn't even got a half length mirror at home" Which reminds me of a rather brilliant comment by Ann - the subject of the conversation shall remain nameless - what shall we do about the hair on her legs? Plait it said Ann without hesitation. Ron and Margaret's Wedding Sadly we are still waiting for the paperwork so no progress - Margaret however has a rather profound quote of the week "If they had a life they wouldn't moan and whinge" Sorry no prizes for guessing to whom she was referring The weather is really hot now - sleeveless dresses short skirts & tee shirts - the birds are all raising their chicks Ann has baby birdies in a drain pipe, Len has some in one of the clay pots in the caf & Alkis has nest in the electricity meter. Its so cute to peer in and see them - so speaks the city girl. Progress is good at Mark & Anns house - that October housewarming party looks promising!!!! THE CULTURE SECTION Heard an explosion whilst sitting in the peace and tranquility of Kao Nero - what's that? Yes they are still dynamite fishing out there. FISH Vassilis advises me that in the event that I forget to feed the fish for a few days they will start to eat each other so if anyone notices that there are less than five gold fish remind someone to feed them . GREEK IN 35 YEARS We feel we have a particularly fine selection of words for you this week starting with Aerodromio - Airport, Leoforio - Bus, Vatrahos - frog, Skilos - dog, Then Ferangi - gorge, which must not be confused with Fengari meaning moon or Fenari meaning traffic lights. Quotes from visitors - The Gorge walk now stops at Piperia Kafenion We have coffee & Grandma cake - sadly over the last few weeks there has been a shortage of Donkeys trotting through the streets at the appropriate moment so we now have a donkey and man on standby so when I shout Gaideros Parakalo the donkey comes. Our Donkey is very beautiful, grey and the cleanest donkey in the Village but its not got a name. Enter Julie from New York rides the donkey up and down Pefki and says why don't you name the donkey after me,snap response from her other half John - yeh, great ass! - so the donkey is now called Julie. If any of the Manchester people read this please get Mikle to phone or e mail me he is in much demand as a sign writer and I want to know if a keg of beer per sign is OK?
